Sometimes being a foodie can come with setbacks. Stinky sinks, burnt pots and pans, and messy countertops can take some joy out of the process. Not to mention the peely, chapped hands from cleaning products.
Some of the best natural cleaners are actually things that you probably already have in your kitchen. They’re cheap, gentle on your skin, and effective, and they’ll have you loving your kitchen again in no time. And, your home will be toxin free!
Here are the superstars:
- baking soda
- white vinegar
- essential oils (tea tree and lavender)
- coarse salt
And here are six handy household hints.
Use equal parts lemon juice and coarse salt to scrub your sink and keep the stainless steel germ free and sparkly. (Don’t use on enamel sinks please!) You can also try sprinkling baking soda all over your sink and scrubbing with a damp sponge or old toothbrush.
2. Cutting boards
Sprinkle salt on half a lemon and scrub wooden cutting boards to clean and disinfect. Let stand for 10 minutes and rinse off.
Place half a cup of white vinegar on the top shelf and let it run to clean the inside.
To clean, mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle and clean as normal. You can also add a few drops of tea tree or lavender essential oils for their antibacterial properties.
5. Burnt pots and pans
Set them on the stove with water and boil for a few minutes. Easy-peasy!
Use a water and baking soda paste to clean the base and walls of your oven. Scrub and leave overnight and then scrape off in the morning, using water to loosen if needed.
